Halloween on Maui in 2020

Virtually every holiday and event on Maui has been affected in some way by the COVID-19 pandemic. In years past, Halloween was full of family friendly events as well as a huge party on Lahaina’s Front Street. Sadly, this year all of the events that typically draw huge crowds like the annual Front Street Halloween Party will be cancelled to align with social distancing protocols. That being said, there are still plenty of ways families can get creative to enjoy the holiday and make it memorable for the kids.
Drive-thru Halloween Parade
The County of Maui is actively working to create two different drive-thru Halloween parades that will take place on Saturday, October 31st, at the Outlets of Maui in Lahaina and Keopuolani Park in Kahului. Details are still forthcoming, but you can check out this article from Maui Now on everything that’s been established so far.
Themed Parties
Several restaurants are hosting Halloween themed parties on Saturday, including Down The Hatch and Mala Ocean Tavern. Both restaurants will feature live music, cocktails and great food. The only requirements are a festive costume which includes a face covering or a mask and social distancing. Starting at 10 p.m. on Halloween night, Mala is hosting an Alco-Traz event with DJ Eliza. The $25 admission fee includes light apps and one cocktail.
Trick-or-Treat Alternatives
With traditional trick-or-treating of the table, families will have to get creative to provide their children a fun and memorable experience. County officials have said that a home-based scavenger hunt can be a fun way to engage your kids and make sure they get plenty of candy in the process. Other options include a scary movie night, a family game night, or even a pumpkin carving contest.
It’s been amazing to see how much work Maui County, as well as the Maui community as a whole has put in to ensure this Halloween will be one the keiki will remember long after the pandemic has subsided.
